Composition:
A two-component high-build epoxy zinc-rich primer composed of zinc
powder, epoxy resin, polyamide curing agent, additive, solvent,
etc.
Characteristics:
Paint film contains large amounts of metallic zinc powder,
providing good resistance to cathodic disbondment.
Excellent rust resistance and durability.
Excellent adhesion and impact resistance.
Excellent abrasion resistance.
Extensive resistance to oils and solvents.
Uses:
As anti-rust primer on heavy anti-corrosion coating systems for
steel and iron structures, such as port machinery, heavy-duty
machinery, petroleum extraction and mining equipment, ship hull in
non-immersed areas hull and deck, bridges, underground pipes, and
exterior walls of gas tank. The best primer for epoxy-type
intermediate paint and epoxy finish.
Color and Appearance:
Grey, Flat
Application Data:
DensityApprox 2.3g/cm3
Mixing RatioComponent AComponent B = 919 (by weight)
Dry Film Thickness80m
Wet Film Thickness160m
Theoretical Consumption380g/m2
Flash PointComponent A (base) 22℃, Component B (curing agent) 22℃
Drying TimeDry to touch30 mins, through dry24 hrs, and full cure 7
days at 25℃
Curing Time30 mins at 25℃
Pot Life (after mixing):
Temperature | 5℃ | 20℃ | 30℃ |
Pot Life | 24 hrs | 8 hrs | 6 hrs |
When the air temperature exceeds 30℃, the pot life of Components A
and B becomes shorter with the rise of air temperature.
Overcoating Interval:
Base Temperature | 10℃ | 25℃ | 30℃ |
Minimum | 48 hrs | 24 hrs | 16 hrs |
Maximum | Several months (before zinc salts form on the surface of paint
film) |
As zinc salts (i.e., basic zinc carbonate, commonly known as white
rust”) may form on its surface, zinc-rich primer should not be
exposed for an extended period of time before final coating is
applied. Where a significant coating interval cannot be avoided,
it’s advisable to apply epoxy mica iron anti-rust paint as a sealer
as soon as possible in order to minimize the workload of secondary
rust removal.
Zinc salts do not form on the surface of paint film which has been
kept in a clean indoor environment for months or in a clean outdoor
environment for up to 14 days. However, in such an environment as
industrial atmosphere or marine climate, zinc salts form quickly;
for this reason, the coating interval of the subsequent paint
should be as short as possible.
The surface of zinc-rich primer where zinc salts have formed should
undergo secondary rust removal by brushing-class sand-blasting or
mechanical means to remove all grease and foreign matter.
Recommended Number of Coats:
One coat by airless spray, with a dry film thickness of 50-80m; two
to three coats by brush or roller.
